A “False Summit” is defined as a peak or point on a mountain, which appears to be the top from the route below, but masks the true summit and is actually lower.  Reaching one can be mentally discouraging for hikers realizing there is still more elevation gain still ahead.  In keeping with this concept, False Summit Defense was founded on the principle that an individual’s level of training and expertise is never truly complete.
